An intense cherry-red colour with pink highlights. The nose is delicious, with notes of cherry flesh, almond, liquorice and pepper, followed by a hint of peony. An initial sensation of freshness on the palate lingers throughout the tasting. The tannins are discreet and grainy, the alcohol moderate, the structure oriented towards a typical mountain tension, all underpinned by a fine aromatic balance bursting with pleasure and red berries. Castellucci Miano

Sicily's vineyards are among the oldest in the world, with Greek, Roman and Phoenician influences, and the largest in Italy (180,000 ha). In the province of Palermo, the 75-hectare Castellucci Miano estate is located around Valledolmo, where vines have been cultivated since the 16th century. Considered as a ‘high-altitude vineyard’ by the official authorities, it clings to the slopes and hollows of the Madonie mountain range at between 700 and 1050 metres.
